DO and DONT-KVPY Interview Preparation
In this article, we will deal about the Common Mistakes in KVPY Interview and What to do and what not to do inKVPY Interview. Do’s and Don’ts never mean they are hard and fast rules and must be followed but more over they mean the best case practices one should follow and comprises of experiences of thousands of previous applicants who have been part of this selection process of KVPY Interview, which you are going to face soon too.
The person you are or your personality is sum of your knowledge, how you react, how you interact and how you engage others. The theoretical knowledge and awareness about an issue is prerequisite, because who ever had cleared the KVPY Written Exam deserves to be in theKVPY Interview Room. But now it’s you who has to stand out and prove your capabilities inside that closed chamber.
Before we proceed, here are 3 Interview Tips for you:
Before we proceed, here are 3 Interview Tips for you:
1. Be Confident: The Interview Panel-Members of Interview Board will be carefully observing who you are starting from how you enter the room, how you answer the asked questions, how confident you are in what you say, what you ask them in return-if any and how you leave the room. So whole attention will be on one person i.e. YOU. Just relax and act like the normal you, don’t stress yourself.
2. Maintain Eye Contact: Face the Interview Panel and maintain a constant eye contact with whole panel. If Person A has asked you a question, you can rotate your eyes across all the Interview Panel Members and keep them engaged by regular eye contact. This will make you feel confident too!
3. Do Preparation: Practice at home will make you feel comfortable. Do some mock preparation at home with friends, parents or siblings. This will give you confidence to face it on the KVPY Interview Day.
Do’s for KVPY Interview:
(1) Be Confident:
This is first and primary requirement to clear KVPY Interview or any other interview. If you don’t have confidence it reflects your lack of will and capability. How educated and smart you are but if you can’t present it to people it will be under shadowed by this weakness. Confidence does not mean speaking well and fluently, it means how you holistically present yourself as an individual.
(2)Respect the Panel:
The Interview Panel of KVPY 2013 will be very senior faculties/researchers with great experience. They are sitting because they have earned it and it’s your turn now to prove your worth. They are acquainted with the qualities and characteristics a good KVPY fellow should have, so give utmost respect to the board.
(3) Don’t believe rumors:
You will hear a lot of different stories about KVPY Interviews or any other interviews. Often it is seen that some students are asked majority of questions related to subject and some are asked extra academic questions. Avoid these unnecessary details and don’t create an image in your mind based on it. Every person is different and so will be the interview. Stick to one thing that you have to prepare yourself in the best possible way.
(4) Be an active Listener:
Not many have this ability. But if you develop this habit you are recognized easily. Active listener means you pay attention to the speaker when they are telling you something and don’t interrupt in between. Such interruptions are often counted as negative. Listen carefully to what they are asking and put your answer in context to the question only.
(5) Gather adequate knowledge before interview:
Ensure that you have gathered required information before you appear in the Interview for KVPY 2013. The information means important questions and previously asked questions, basic interview techniques and tips and how to present yourself at the interview. This will not only make you feel confident in the interview room but will also help you in answering the questions of Interview Panel.
(6) Accept it if you don’t know:
It’s better to accept that you don’t know the answer rather than building virtual walls around the question. Remember, the interviewer is educated enough to realize you don’t know the answer and trying to make it up. If someone from the Interview Panel tells or explains you the answer, thank them for the same.
(7) Give the best of you:
In the interview your target should be to show the best side of you and cover up the negative in you. Covering up does not mean you need to be fake but it means try presenting your good side (Good academics, extra-curricular achievements or any other) so that you will be asked questions around it.
Don’ts for KVPY Interview:
Don’ts for KVPY Interview:
(1) Don’t break the Interview Room Etiquettes:
This part comprises of a lot of things. Once you are in the KVPY Interview Room, every bit of you will be noticed. With etiquettes we mean the normal things you should ignore, like eating chewing gum in the interview, sitting in lousy posture, not being attentive and giving random answers and explanations etc. These are very basics and you can easily ensure you don’t mess up things because of them.
(2) Do not interrupt the interviewer:
In Do’s we discussed that one should try to be an active learner. Now interrupting the interviewer would never be a positive aspect. You should always let the interviewer complete his/her question and then give your answer. Hurrying in answering and interrupting the interviewer will give a wrong impression about you and will give you negative ratings.
(3) Don’t be Nervous and Tensed:
Being nervous and tensed on the KVPY Interview Day will not be doing any good. Keep yourself calm and composed. Try doing something that relaxes you the night before like take a walk, watch a comic show, read a motivating story or something else that makes you feel comfortable.
(4) Do not hesitate:
This is one very crucial thing that every student should always keep in mind-Until and unless you won’t speak, they won’t hear or know if you know the answer or not. You need to be confident and answer the questions.
(5) Do not try to confuse/bluff/dodge the interviewer:
Ensure you don’t try to confuse the interviewer by giving random explanations and answers of the asked questions. They are smart people sitting there and won’t take time to gauge that you are trying to bluff the answer which will lead a negative impression of yours. Rather, try being honest and accept if you don’t know something.
(6) Don’t be aggressive/argue:
You should avoid getting into arguments with any of the interviewer. There is a big difference between healthy discussion and argument but a very thin line which might get crossed if you get aggressive answering them and gets into an argument. Try being straight to the point and prefer avoiding any form of argument.
(7) Do not flatter:
Why you should avoid this is because flattering won’t work. Keep this thing out of your mind that the interviews are biased and selections are not done based on knowledge and skill-set. Show the real you and don’t blandish the interviewers.
We hope you take the best habits with you and leave the ones that are not so good and will constantly keep on pushing yourselves to be better, everyday.
Do share and comment your feedback and other Do’s and Don’ts for KVPY Interviewbelow.

Last Minute tipss tackle IIT-JEE
So, the biggest exam of your life is just a month away! Don't panic and don't pretend that it will go away - it won't ! If you're planned and focussed, you won't find IIT-JEE to be the nightmare you fear. It's been long since you started preparing, so now it's time to give attention to the nitty gritties.
Don't forget that a smart set of paper-setters have their methods, even under the strict format of objective questions, to distinguish between a 'thinking and analytical' student and a 'memory oriented accepting' student.
IIT-JEE is not a 'last minute preparation exam'. Do not expect miracles. IIT-JEE is not a memory based exam. Last-minute 'cramming' will not be useful.
It does not matter 'how much' you have studied - what matters is 'how well' and what you have studied. In simple words, rather than trying to complete 100 per cent of the syllabus by doing a bit of each topic, it will be more fruitful if you focus on only 60-65 per cent of the syllabus and do it thoroughly.
The pattern of the IIT-JEE has undergone a radical change this year. The exact pattern is still unclear. Don't let this bother you. Remember , the uncertainty does not affect only you - it affects everybody.
Even though the pattern has changed, the basic philosophy hasn't - the IIT-JEE will still be a test of your fundamentals, and their application.
Here are a few tips which will help you plan your studies over the next month:
1. Find a nice place to study. It must be quiet, well lit and without distractions. Keep background noises to the minimum.
2. Prepare a study plan timetable, and it can make all the difference over the next four weeks. Constantly monitor your progress. Here's how you can make a to-the-point time table.
3. a) Make a list of the topics and divide them into three different categories - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. The Good - topics that you think you are good at - these are your strengths, which you need to consolidate. The Bad - topics that you are not so comfortable with, but with additional effort can be mastered - these are weaknesses that you need to work on. The Ugly - topics which are 'greek or latin' - these are your blind spots which you are going to ignore for the exam.
b) Calculate the time you can put in per day. (Don't go overboard by doing it 18 hours a day - you need your sleep).
c) Divide your time across the various topics, focusing on The Good and The Bad. Aim for a balance. Use the syllabuses for each subject as a starting point. Look at what you need to know and try to identify any gaps in your knowledge. (A good way of doing this is to look at the results of past papers or tests you have worked through).
d) Prepare a schedule for the topics that you are going to cover each day, so that you have a daily target. You may find it helpful to change from one subject to another at 'break'time. It helps to build in some variety.
e) Aim to have your revision completed by a week before your exams. This gives you: flexibility in case of illness more time to spend for difficulties time to practice mock tests.
4. Trust yourself. Once you know a topic thoroughly, move on. Don't get panicky if you come across questions that you cannot solve and keep going back to the topics that you have already finished.
5. How to study: There is no 'right way' to revise, as long as your method enables you to gain a solid grasp of key facts and consolidate your knowledge. Study with a friend and test each other's knowledge, but revise rather than chat!
a) Practice - This is the most important part. Unless you allocate sufficient time to practicing problems, all your effort will go waste. IIT-JEE is now an objective exam, and unless you have sufficient practice, you will not be able to achieve a proper balance between speed and accuracy. While revising a subject, practise in an environment that you would be giving your exam in. This would be an actual simulation of the examination itself.
b) Choose your study material sensibly. Do not fall into the trap of collecting lots of different books. Remember - you have limited time. Save it and get recommendations from your teachers.
6. Relaxation is also important. You must achieve a balance between this and work to make your revision really effective. Allow yourself some fun-time each day to relax. Eat sensibly - your brain cells need energy to function well. Make sure you drink plenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated. Dehydration makes you tired and reduces concentration. Maintain a regular sleep pattern, seven hours of sleep is mandatory for the body to function well. It is not important whether you study late or get up early, as long as you get into the habit of being alert at the same time as that of the exam. Try and stop working an hour before bedtime. You will find it helpful to do some muscular relaxation, which is particularly effective in relieving stress.
7. Don't panic. Think about what you can achieve, not what you can't. Positive thinking is important! Keep the exam in context - even if you do badly, there will be other options.
8. Above all - Do what you can. Don't think that there's no point. You can still make a difference. Use your last minute panic constructively. You probably know more than you realise. If you are anxious, don't bottle it up. Please have a word with your parents, friends or teachers.
9. Time out: To prevent mental fatigue, take a short break as soon as you notice your mind is losing concentration. Stick to activities that do not break your study continuum. Avoid television and loud music.
